Ways to Take the Exam

NITC must process your completed application and payment before you are eligible to schedule your exam.

1) Local Prometric Test Center (Computer-Based)

Exams may be taken at an approved Prometric Test Center. To locate a testing center, visit Prometric’s website and search by selecting:

  1. Select a Test Sponsor – Choose “National Inspection Testing and Certification Corporation.”
  2. Select a Program – Choose “National Inspection Testing and Certification Corporation.”
  3. Select the appropriate NBOPE Journeyman Plumber 2024 exam option.

You will then be able to choose a testing location, date, and time that works for you.

2) Remotely Proctored Online Exam (Computer-Based)

Applicants may take the exam remotely using Prometric’s ProProctor™ online proctoring system.

Before scheduling a remote exam, review the ProProctor User Guide and confirm your computer meets system compatibility requirements.

  • You must provide your own computer.
  • The computer must have a working camera, microphone, and reliable internet connection.
  • A lightweight application must be installed prior to the test session.

During the exam, a Prometric proctor will monitor the testing session remotely.

3) Group Examinations (Computer or Paper/Pencil)

Local Associations and Training Agencies periodically host group examinations, typically when apprentices are scheduled for certification testing.

Applicants may contact a local association to inquire about upcoming group exam dates and availability. If space is available, include the group exam date, location, and hosting association on your application to NITC.

The format of the exam (computer-based or paper/pencil) is determined by the hosting agency.
